Liberty Wildlife

Meet Apache the Golden Eagle
This is Vivian, she is a Merlin
Here is Bailey the Turkey Vulture
Rio is a Zone Tailed Hawk
This big beauty is Armadillo the Black Vulture
Here is an American Kestrel. Unfortunately I forgot her name.

Liberty Wildlife is a wonderful rehabilitation conservation group for animals. We have taken a sick Mourning Dove to the facility earlier this summer. My daughter and I were treated to an awesome presentation at Desert Rivers Audubon's meeting. These birds will never return to the wild, but they are absolutely beautiful none the less!

Brown Thrasher

We are currently waiting on confirmation of this bird. It is so exciting that it just might be a Brown Thrasher. Why so exciting? It is not native to Arizona and to be in our area is truly rare.

So with out further ado, here is the bird in question that has been in our backyard off and on this week.

Killdeer

We saw this bird in a pasture out in Glendale.

Abert's Towhee

These little birds do move so quickly and are fun to watch.

Phainopepla

On our way to a field trip, we saw the Phainopepla trying to stay on the plant in the wind.

Greater Roadrunner

We saw the roadrunner on top of a house in our neighborhood. It was eating an insect.

Young Black-crowned Night Heron

We found this little guy to be quite interesting to watch. We came about him as we were leaving the park.

Flamingo

Our daughter learned the birds get their coloring by the food they eat. We saw these beautiful birds at the Phoenix Zoo.

Curve-billed Thrasher Eggs

We came across this nest on one of our walks. They are Curve-billed Thrasher eggs. We caught a photo of the mother bird in the nest a few days later.

Western King Bird

Red-tailed Hawk Nest & Baby

Today we came across a Red-tailed hawk nest. I believe this is a baby hawk, but not sure of the age of the bird. Thank goodness for zoom lens. Amazing animal!

White-winged Dove

Our daughter noticed this dove was different than the other doves in our backyard. She looked in her field guide and was able to identify the dove by its markings. She has a good eye for birding.

Northern Mockingbird

Lesser Goldfinch

This bird we saw down the street from our home. It has a sweet sound.

Turkey Vulture

Update: We saw this critter flying directly over head in our neighborhood.

Wow! Try getting this critter up close on the camera is a task. It definitely moves way too fast for my camera. Fortunately it flew low enough on top of the parking area that my daughter got to see the red head on this vulture while I was trying to get the camera to record. We will continue to try and get a closer photo on our hikes.
