We have seen Great Blue Herons at Chaparral Park and a park near McCormick Ranch.
Great Egret
There are several Great Egret's at the Chaparral Park and surrounding areas where there are shallow ponds.
Red-winged Black Bird
The first time we saw this bird, Mom thought it was a crow with genetic problems. It was our daughter who insisted that is was not a crow. Little did Mom know it was a Red-winged Black bird. Amazing!

House Finch
The House Finches are regulars at the bird feeders. They will eat from the feeders hanging from the tree and the ones we have on the ground. The ones with the red coloring are the males. The brown one is a female House Finch.
Mourning Dove
The Mourning Doves like to hang out in the backyard. You can recognize them by their sad cooing.European Starling
When at the Desert Botanical Gardens, we saw a few of these birds pecking for food on the ground. They move fast. We had to look through several picture frames to identify them.
Curve-Billed Thrasher
We saw this critter at the Desert Botanical Gardens. There were two of them resting on the cactus eating the fruit.
Gila Woodpecker
We saw this Gila Woodpecker on one of our walks around the neighborhood. We have two that like to visit our hummingbird feeder and both try to drink at the same time.
Northern "Gilded" Flicker
This is a female, she has no red markings on her face
Taken in our front yard. Our daughter is the one who noticed this woodpecker was different than the ones who visit our hummingbird feeder.

We have a few Northern Cardinals who visit the backyard. They like to eat sunflower seeds and wild bird food. There are about 3 different males who come to the feeders.
Cactus Wren
Arizona's state bird, the Cactus Wren. Taken on one of our outings to see the baby owls in Cave Creek.
Harris Hawk
Today we saw a Harris Hawk perched on the neighbor's roof. Our son was the first to see him in our backyard perched on his basketball!
